Across the country there are cafteteria workers in elementary schools, businesses, and universities. Many of these places are in contract with big food product providers like Sodexo and Aramark. Sodexo has control over a large portion of the food service industry and because of this it can get away with charging its clients a lot more than other providers. It also is able to pay its employees extremely low wages that are close to if not minimum wages. Many Cafeteria workers have come together and joined unions like UNITE HERE, and the SEIU. They have also joined forces and gone on strike at university campuses across the nation.
